WASL Asset Management Group

WASL Asset Management Group, one of the largest real estate management companies in Dubai, was established by the Dubai Real Estate Corporation (DREC) to oversee the management of its assets and grow its real estate portfolio.

WASL’s operations span various sectors, from residential and commercial properties to industrial plots of land and from leisure and entertainment to hotels and serviced apartments.

Challenges:

WASL has a requirement to migrate legacy applications on Microsoft Azure considering the scalability and performance as major pillars.  Their current on premise architecture did not support the expected load and had performance issue during new property campaigns.

WASL was looking for an efficient end-to-end solution which is secure, scalable, performance and cost optimized.

Strategy:

Based on the detailed assessment of application, the strategy was to modernize it on cloud, accordingly Azure App Services was proposed for the application deployment which helped to achieve the performance and scalability feature. Considering that heavy load is generated only during the campaign days and plan to move away from legacy application management opened doors towards Azure App services which helped in optimizing cost while meeting the business requirements without any compromise.

Outcome:

Campaigns of any size in the region or across the globe has become more easier with less preparation time or planning.

Business team started global campaigns, which opened the doors to a bigger market without any additional IT investments

Azure App Service helped to adopt the continuous deployment process which is automatic. This brought in the Devops culture in to the organization, which the future.

Landmark Group

Landmark Group is one of the largest retail and hospitality organizations in the Middle East, Africa, and India. Landmark currently has their SAHLA application footprint on-premises and OCI with manual deployments taking place through Docker containers. Shala’s 70+ microservices which are responsible for retail business have their dependencies on in-house databases and external systems. The API gateway is responsible for service definition and discovery for applications, end-users, and external parties. The source control and build definitions currently exist in Azure DevOps. The same would be consumed to define releases in future. Currently the microservices and ESB are deployed in Docker, running on 2 virtual machines (VMWare).

Challenges:

  • Some key LOB applications are 10+ years old need for agility.
  • Business SLAs needed improvement
  • Traditionally designed database
  • Scalability is not in place.
  • Continuous integration and continuous deployment are not in place for micro services.

Strategy:

Based on our application assessment, a new design was proposed for this business critical retail application utilizing most effective Azure Kubernetes with DevOps culture while bringing in advanced azure features like auto scaling, CI CD, Application logging and effective monitoring.

As always our strategy was to go one extra mile to plan the internal team training on DevOps culture to run business as usual.

Outcome:

  • Modernize Application Platforms using Azure
  • Auto scaling and CI CD in place.
  • Quicker time to market and reduction in development lifecycles by up-to 60% with Azure DevOps& Containerization
  • Highly available, fault tolerant solution architecture
  • Business SLA improved.
